Brendan Rodgers has said he would not have allowed Andy Carroll to leave Liverpool had he known they would not sign a replacement.

And he is willing to consider all options of out-of-contract strikers, including Michael Owen, as he attempts to bolster Liverpool's forward line before the transfer window reopens in January.

But the Northern Irishman, who failed to sign Clint Dempsey on transfer deadline day when Liverpool could not match Fulham's valuation of the American, denied he had been misled by owners Fenway Sports Group.

Asked directly if he would have let Carroll sign on loan for West Ham without another forward coming in he replied: "No."

And when asked how confident he was that Liverpool would bring in another attacker on Friday, he simply said: "Very."

Rodgers added: "Andy is gone. That's the reality of it. We all know we need reinforcements but the window is shut so we can't do anything about it. We have got what we have got."

Owen is without a club since leaving Manchester United and is thus an option for Rodgers, along with other unattached players.

"Any player that I believe can improve the squad I will look at," he vowed. "We have got a very, very small squad with some very young players in it. So I can't say no."

Rodgers is disappointed Liverpool were unable to find the funds for Dempsey, who joined Tottenham for £6 million, but refused to criticise FSG.

He added: "It's a learning process for the owners as well. They have come into here and invested way over £100 million into the club.

"They have made a big commitment to have me here for the longer term. The owners have been very up front and very honest with me. There are one or two operational things I need to iron out, no question, but they certainly haven't misled me."
