Brendan Rodgers has said he would not have allowed Andy Carroll

Brendan Rodgers has said he would not have allowed Andy Carroll to leave Liverpool had he known they would not sign a replacement.

And he is willing to consider all options of out-of-contract strikers, including Michael Owen, as he attempts to bolster Liverpool's forward line before the transfer window reopens in January.
But the Northern Irishman, who failed to sign Clint Dempsey on transfer deadline day when Liverpool could not match Fulham's valuation of the American, denied he had been misled by owners Fenway Sports Group.

Arsene Wenger claims the impending return of Jack Wilshere

Arsene Wenger claims the impending return of Jack Wilshere dissuaded him from signing Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.

Liverpool confirmed they had reached a deal to sign the Turkey international on a season-long loan, appearing to have beaten their Premier League rivals in the race to sign the playmaker.
However, while Wenger will not be tempted to bring Wilshere back before he is ready, he believes Sahin would be surplus to requirements at Emirates Stadium as soon as Wilshere returns.
