Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has completed a loan move to Bolton for the rest of the season.

Jay Spearing will be looking for first-team football

Spearing, 23, who had a short loan spell in the Championship with Leicester in 2010, has only featured in the Europa League since Brendan Rodgers took charge at Anfield.

The academy graduate is a former Liverpool youth-team captain, has made 55 appearances for the club and played 16 times in the Premier League last season.

But his first-team chances under Rodgers were reduced by the £15 million signing of Joe Allen from Swansea a week before the start of the Premier League season.

Jay Spearing: Faces competition for regular football

Wanderers had hoped to take the midfielder on loan for the season but Liverpool want £3 million for the 23-year-old.

While Spearing played 25 games last season and started the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea, he did not even make the bench for Sunday's 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

After completing the loan signing of Nuri Sahin, Rodgers has seven central midfielders ahead of Spearing in the queue for places - the Turk, Steven Gerrard, Joe Allen, Lucas Leiva, Jonjo Shelvey, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.
